Jayne and I went for our almost daily walk and decided to go to Temple fields where we both thought there was some kind of park or cycle track. There in the middle of the industrial estate is a lovely secluded river walk. Its like being in the middle of the countryside, with the plants and the birds all singing away. The only thing was that it was very isolated and at 8 on a Sunday evening it felt a little unnerving and slightly scary. A frog or something equally as large plop out from my feet and into the river which unnerved us both further and the heavy noise of the bird song begun to sound slightly oppressive. I had a horrible feeling that I should look back over my shoulder and began to plan in my head what I would do if someone jumped out on us. Would my mobile phone work, who would they grab first...so by the time we emerged at the other end I was very spooked.
Jayne was wriggling around saying she needed the loo and then added that actually she had felt quite worried in the woods. So we had both been feeling the same! A night watchman from a nearby factory saw us and called us over and during the conversation that followed he told us that the particular part we had just walked had a reputation for being haunted! Apparently ghost buster types visit there regularly and there is supposed to be ghosts of a roman soldier, a monk and children!! I guess that accounted for our creepy feelings that we both had.
We walked on and decided to cut through the town park by the end of School Lane and as we passed under some trees a large black bird started scooting along the ground trying to take off. I could see it was a crow and guessed it was a young one who had either fallen out of the nest or who had recently fledged and was inexperienced at flying.
We heard crashing and cawing noises above us in the foliage and guessed the parents must be keeping an eye on the baby and was trying to warn us off. I said to Jayne we had better move on otherwise we could be bombed and we walked on to the sound of the parent shouting at us and banging about in the tree above.
A little out of the tree we stood and just looked back hoping to see the parent and baby united and the chick in the tree when suddenly the parent crow cawed really loudly at us, stared us straight in the eyes and took off aiming for our heads!! I grabbed Jayne, she grabbed me, we both screamed and ran, trying to duck and think of where the best place to go was. Jayne's sandal came off in the melee and all the while the horrible cawing sound and threat of having our heads pecked. Even when we were a lot further away the parent still cawed at us and altogether it was positively scary like something out of a Hitchcock film. We did laugh as well though.
As to Mr V... I have not had the inclination to want to get in touch with him at all. Which is excellent.
Monday I was busy in work and again have not wanted to text although the anger and amazment is subsiding and I now have the feeling that if I do meet up with him again it will be on different terms for me mentally but to be honest I am not sure I want to meet with him. At the moment I can still feel fairly good about the last few months and having known it would never last for ever this might be a good way to end it.
